1st task: Avaluació inicial 2014-15

Dear students,

Over the last few decades, English has become the international language. While we, the inhabitants of this planet, haven’t decided this through a democratic process, the fact is that we need English to get a job, to study at university, for business and for leisure activities, such as listening to music and meeting new people from different countries and discovering other cultures.

Learning a language is not something that can be achieved in a certain number of hours, or in a single course like this one. Improving your mastery of a language is a life-long undertaking! Even your mother tongue can be improved all the time.

I’m conscious that each of you is beginning this year with a different level of English. It is not easy to move a heterogeneous group forward, and this will depend on the effort of each and every one of you.  From my side, I will try my best!  Nowadays there are many tools for practicing English on the web, and I would very much like to help you discover them and encourage you to take advantage of them. I’m new in this school and I’m still not sure of the computer resources available here. Moreover, and it’s a pity, I don’t know much about the technical studies you are working on. I’m sure I will learn a lot from you!

Now, in order to find out your experience with the English language, I would like you to write about how and when you started to learn it – your first years at school or/and at private academies, if you have used the language travelling abroad, or with tourists or friends in Barcelona, etc. Please comment on your feelings about your experiences, whether they were pleasant or disagreeable. Are you happy with the idea of working again on this subject?

In conclusion, please write a little story about you and your relationship with the English language.

Welcome back to school!

Your teacher
